Free Sustainability Lesson Plan Materials

Help your students learn about sustainability, one of the biggest trends in current events and economics, by playing a really fun game!

These lesson plans and supplementary slide decks complement the sustainability game GBO Hawai’i and help students understand sustainability from a business perspective as well as a public interest one.

Objectives & Expected Learning Outcomes for Students:
1.    Learn about the role of governments in (at times) promoting or (at times) discouraging sustainability initiatives such as clean technologies, smart growth, energy efficient infrastructure, economic development and green job development.
2.    Learn about public policy from local municipalities, states and the federal government.
3.    Understand the knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics needed for embarking on a green career path.
4.    Understand geography and place-based resources.
5.    Gain entrepreneurship and business skills including allocation of limited resources, competitive strategies, recognition of opportunities, and calculation of return on investment.
6.    See the difference between traditional business, with its singular focus on the financial bottom line, and the green economy, which has societal, public health, and environmental benefits in addition to financial ones.
